HONOLULU: OCTOBER 6, 2001 - The keynote and guest speakers for the Saturday, October 6, 2001 symposium on Hawaii's Public Trust Doctrine will be touring the famed Waiahole Ditch water system at 9 AM on the morning of Friday, October 5, 2001 and the media is invited to participate. HAWAI`I STATE CAPITOL APRIL 26th, 2001 - What can you build in Hawai`i without a county permit? Not a house. Not an office. Not a park. How about an airport? Yes, if House Bill 728, Conference Draft 1 passes on the floor of the House and the Senate this week or early net week. The bill would exempt the Airports Division of the Transportation Department from County planning, design and construction permits and from the Coastal Zone Management Act. More
HONOLULU: AUGUST 28, 2000 - The Hawai`i Supreme Court's August 22, 2000 decision in the Waiahole Ditch case may be the most significant case in this country regarding the little-known Public Trust Doctrine. Donna Wong, Executive Director of Hawaii's Thousand Friends (HTF), a non-profit environmental/land use organization noted, "As a party to that case, HTF is proud to have worked closely with the Waiahole-Waikane Community Association and others in this most important case - which is now precedent for the Hawai`i and perhaps for other states. We are particularly proud that the Public Trust Doctrine was fundamental to the ultimate Supreme Court decision."
